What is your "Why"?
YOU are my Why
Hello, dearest love,
When I was about 13 years old, I listened with racing heart to a pastor and a visiting foreign missionary talk about traveling the world to share the love of Jesus. My whole body was vibrating with “Yes”!
Yes, this is what I want to do with my life!
I stood before my First Baptist Church congregation and dedicated my life to foreign missionary service.
Later, the church’s messages shifted. I began to believe that I wasn’t worthy—not to be a missionary, not even to be a Christian, not even to be loved by God. And for decades, I lived feeling separate from divinity or grace.
Slowly, beginning in about 2012, I started to find my way back. Not through doctrine or religion, but through connecting to my own wisdom and making my own choices. Through my own relationship with the divine.
And then, when the shame and unworthiness were shifted, when I reconnected with spirit in my own way, I uncovered the gift that had always been mine: My joy. My courage. My medicine. My mission.
Not to share the message “you must believe this or you’ll burn in hell.”
My message is “you are loved, worthy, precious, unique, priceless, powerful, and free, no matter what.”
Twice in the last day, someone asked me what my “why” is. The first answer—the truest one—popped into my head instantly: just because.
I thought maybe there should be more to it. But really, there isn’t. I do this work because it’s what I do, it’s who I am.
It’s my medicine.
My life has not been conflict-free, easy, or pampered. But I do feel like I was born with something extra—an unfair advantage, really—a sunny disposition and a natural leaning toward happiness.
Medicine is meant to be shared.
For me, simply lolling around in my own happiness and freedom feels incomplete and empty. I have to talk about it. I have to tell the story. I’ll explode or waste away if I don’t.
That’s my why.
It’s for you. For you to be inspired by my joy and go create your own. For you to borrow courage from me until you can claim your own. For you to see the images I share of this stunning world and feel the pull to go discover it for yourself.
This is why I’ve kept going for twelve years. With little money, no millions of followers, no shiny fame. I keep going because I can’t not.
So, that’s my why.
Now, what’s yours?
Are you inspired? Or afraid? Are you still letting the chains of culture, religion, and expectation keep you trapped in someone else’s version of life?
My why is to show you that you don’t have to. At any age, you can shift your thoughts, reclaim your power, and get on with living the life that you want.
